First team in MLB history to have one Japanese-born player notch 3+ extra-base hits, and another earn the win

The Cubs are the first team in MLB history to have one Japanese-born player notch 3+ extra-base hits, and another earn the win.

The back of the card says

Seiya Suzuki and Shota Imanaga made history in the Chicago Cubs win over the Miami Marlins. Starting with Suzuki, the slugger crushed a pair of home runs in the contest, plus an RBI triple to power the team’s offense. On the mound, Imanaga was just as good, allowing just four hits on the night to pick up the victory. The Cubs are now the first team in MLB history to have one Japanese-born player notch 3+ extra-base hits, and another earn the win.

I came across this fact on the Topps Now website. A great example of how I get my baseball news through this channel.

What about Shohei Ohtani?

It’s funny how Shohei Ohtani has not achieved this yet. In the same game, get the win as the pitcher, and also hit 3+ extra-base hits.

He’s come close. As a pitcher he’s gotten 2 extra-base hits in five games.

Of those five games, the Ohtani’s team (the Los Angeles Angels) won all five games. However, he was the winning pitcher in three of those games.

Has Ohtani ever gotten 3+ extra-base hits in one game as a non-pitcher?

Yes, he’s done that seven times.

Maybe next year when Ohtani is pitching again, he might get that coveted 3 XBH and Win in the same game.
